My visa interview is a little bit funny and good. VO is looking smart and aged between 25 - 30.
VO: (Called next and I went.)
Me: Very good noon officer, how are you? (with smile)
VO: Yeah, I'm fine! (with smile)
Me: (I passed the Passport, I-20, DS-160, SEVIS fee receipt without asking.)
VO: Ohhh, thank you so much. So, you are heading to Sacred Heart University?
Me: Yes sir.
VO: Why this university?
Me: This is the best choice of the various admits that I've received. And my field of interest is unique. And that too, the university is having good student faculty ratio and provides subjects which I have interest.
VO: Ok, thats fine. How do you know about this university? There are lot of Indians in this university. Don't you know anyone?
Me: No sir.
VO: Are you sure?
Me: Yes sir.
VO: What are the other universities you have applied?
Me: (Said about my admits.)
VO: What's your GRE?
Me: (told)
VO: Any backlogs?
Me: 2 backlogs sir. But, completed in my next attempt.
VO: Your aggregate?
Me: 75% sir.
VO: Ohhh, that's really good!
Me: Thank you sir!
VO: Ok, how are you gonna be funded?
Me: I have a bank loan of ₹ 25,00,000 and saving of ₹ 19,00,000 and properties worth ₹ 2,02,87,000.
VO: That's good. What's your father?
Me: He is a State Government employee.
VO: In which department?
Me: Road Transport Corporation.
VO: Is he a driver?
Me: No sir, he is Assistant Head in the Medical Department.
VO: Medical Department? You said that Road Transport Corporation, right? Then, what is Medical Department?
Me: It's a separate department in Road Transport Corporation sir.
VO: Ohhh, ok. That's fine. I'm confused man. (with a smile)
Me: No problem sir.
VO: What's his annual income?
Me: ₹ 8,00,000 per annum sir.
VO: ₹ 8 lakhs (...with a different expression.) Are you sure?
Me: Yes sir.
VO: What's your mother?
Me: My mom is a singer sir. (cream biscuit)
VO: Ohhh, great, (with a smile) how much does she earn?
Me: ₹ 4 lakhs per annum sir.
VO: Ok. What is the course you are gonna going to take?
Me: Computer Science sir.
VO: What's the course you are gonna going to take in your first sem?
Me: (I thought he was mistaken. I started saying the name of subjects that I'm going to take in first sem.)
VO: Sir, I have asked about the course, not about subjects!
Me: (I don't know about that and said...) Advanced Software Engineering.
VO: Ok, can you tell me what is software engineering? You are going to take your first sem, right?
Me: (I'm in a dilemma as I don't know what to say. I'm staring at him.)
VO: What is Advanced Software Engineering?
Me: (I thought my game is over and came to an idea that my performance is gonna end now. But, I didn't lose my confidence and said him truth...)
Me: Sir, to be frank, actually, I don't know what software engineering is! As an ECE student, I have dealt with Computer Science subjects in our four years such as C language, Data Structures, OOPS, OS, Computer Networking, Database Management System.
Me: So that I can have an idea regarding computer science and I became passionate towards it... so that I think that I'm capable of dealing Computer Science in my Masters. As Advanced Software Engineering is not in my graduation, I'm going to deal in my Masters sir.
VO: Ohhh, ok ok. That's good!
(VO has switched off the mike and talked to his colleague who is beside him. Typing... typing... typing. He shaking my Passport on the table, moving right and left like a ball. I was standing silently for a while and then he switched on the mike and turned towards me and said...)
VO: Ok sir, I'm approving your Visa. Have a nice day! (with a smile)
Me: Thank you sir! (with smile)
VO: One second, you have done clean shave, right?
Me: Yes sir.
VO: Why sir? Appearance matters. I agree and that too, performance also matters. You have done well, anyway. Have a nice stay in US.
Me: Thank you so much sir. (with smile and left the consulate smiling.)
Overall my interview lasted for 3-4 minutes. Only thing is "Be confident." That's it. I think it helps you all.
