A guy was rejected before me because he could not answer properly why he changed his university from last time. The VO was female, taciturn, just asking questions not taking part in conversation. Counter no. 12.
Visa Interview:
ME: Good Morning madam. (Passed passport and I-20)
VO: Good Morning. No, just give me the passport.
VO: So which university are you going for?
ME: Madam, I am going to Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey.
VO: How many admits did you get?
ME: Madam, I got only one admit from Stevens Institute of Technology.
VO: What was your GRE Score?
ME: Madam, My GRE score was 294.
VO: When did you graduate?
ME: Madam, I graduated this year, in 2014.
VO: What does your father do?
ME: Madam, He's working as Sr. Discipline Engineer in XX company in YY country. His annual income is Rs ZZ Lakhs.
VO: (Little shocked) Since when is he in YY?
ME: Madam, He's in YY since 2009, form 2007-2009 he was in VV country.
VO: Do you have any siblings?
ME: Yes Madam, I have an elder brother.
VO: What does he do?
ME: Madam, he's currently working as DevOps in an MNC called BookMyShow.
VO: How much does he earns annually?
ME: Madam, he earns around x Lakhs. He has signed a 5 year bond, so they'll increment his salary every year.
VO: Your Visa is approved. Next person please.
ME: Thank you madam, Have a happy and prosperous 2015.
VO: (Surprised reaction, smiles) Thank you.
There have been few denials in Hyderabad. But the VOs try to make you talk and don't reject you directly. They give you opportunity to put your point, don't stammer and speak confidently. Smile and maintain eye-contact. Most of the times they'll be typing something. She hardly looked at me during the interview, but they can see you from the end of their eye, so keep smiling and maintain eye contact.
